An ecomuseum opens... underwater!
Cannes Underwater Ecomuseum
Open daily
Have you ever imagined putting on fins, a mask, and a snorkel to visit an exhibition? That's the challenge the city of Cannes took on by opening the very first underwater museum.
The city of Cannes inaugurated, off the coast of Île Sainte-Marguerite, its underwater ecomuseum with the installation of sixmonumental statues by Jason de CairesTaylor, creator of the world's first underwater sculpture park. The artist has captured the faces of Cannes residents to create a monumental portrait, made with pH-neutral marine cement. An artistic experience beyond the ordinary conceived as a scientific observatory allowing researchers to studythe evolution of biodiversity in what will naturally become, over time, an artificial reef, both a habitat and a refuge for the species of our coastline. If you are captivated by the experience, continue your visit a few kilometers away to the Plage des Catalans in Marseille, around 10 equally spectacular works. Masks on, ready, dive!
