The premiere of Vanessa Paradis at the theater: “Maman”, is it worth it?

Since Tuesday, Vanessa Paradis has been starring in the play Maman written by her husband Samuel Benchetrit at the Théâtre Edouard VII. Between his performance and the price of tickets, the public is divided. And what did we think of it?
A city at night. A woman is waiting for her taxi, wrapped in a fur coat. A young man passes in front of her for the first time. Exceeds it. Comes back to her, slowly. And asks him a question that will change both of their lives .
With Vanessa Paradis, there is often a taxi story. And it is while waiting for one that her character, Jeanne, will be stalked by a young lost person (Félix Moati) who took her for a prostitute. Married for 25 years, in search of a child she never had, she decides to take him under her wing, involving her husband (Éric Elmosnino) in a story that is sometimes comic, sometimes dramatic, but always original. All this happens under the front of her store, “Maman”.
Debrief (without disclosure)
A story that is not easy despite an already well-explored theme: the unconditional love of a mother. Vanessa Paradis takes her first steps on the stage with a fumbling foot: we feel nervous, but ends up taking over the stage with her three particularly fit companions - Eric Elmosino plays his character brilliantly. If the first minutes may seem uncertain, we let ourselves be drawn in by this funny story, full of poetry and tenderness, and ultimately convinced. The dialogues are excellent and tasty. We will regret the emergence of a few monologues which break the rhythm.
Vanessa Paradis
Vanessa Paradis gives us a fair performance, thanks to her natural presence and her voice. Even in the case of tremolos, we believe in it. Because it’s her, naturally, and her character too. So we see her again during her first steps on TV, singing Emilie Jolie at the Ecole des fans, and we say to ourselves that she hasn't changed that much , And that's good.
The piece will conclude with a standing ovation from the audience. Despite running-in imperfections, the piece deserves its success. We will probably have to wait a few weeks for the interpreter of Joe from Taxi to be in full control of himself and his body. Ultimately, Vanessa remains true to herself, an island of sincerity and gentleness in the artistic landscape - a paradise...
