We saw the film that won everything at the Oscars, Everything everywhere at all once, we tell you

Did you completely miss the Everything everywhere at all once phenomenon? Don't panic, us too. The film nevertheless had the effect of a bomb at the Oscars, winning all the most coveted prizes of the ceremony: best film, best director(s), best original screenplay, best actress, best supporting actress. role, best supporting actor and best editing... Faced with the tsunami caused by the Daniels' coronation in Los Angeles, we obtained this unidentified film object in order to form our own opinion. Verdict? Hollywood is still in shock; That’s good, us too.

The film in two words?
A laundromat, a messy apartment, piles of bills, a conflicted relationship with her daughter... Worn out by life, Evelyn Wang leads a dull existence in which she seems trapped. One day, she finds herself immersed in the multiverse, drawn into an unreal adventure where she must connect to the lives she could have had in other parallel universes and save what is most important to her: her family.{ 6}

Where to start ? We come away from these two and a quarter hours of film totally washed out (no pun intended) by what we have just seen. Or maybe yes, let's finally indulge in a few puns which will certainly bring a smile from our two whimsical directors. One thing is certain, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are no fools. Gritty, irreverent, crazy and hallucinatory... Everything everywhere at all once is, let's say it, a joyful mess where all genres of cinema mingle with undisguised generosity. In line with the cinematic and mental labyrinths that are Matrix by the Wachowski sisters or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Michel Gondry, the film explores the family drama in a deluge of images , school comedy, science fiction, martial arts. Added to this is a touch of animation, bold humor, a fight scene with butt plugs, an unexpected romance between two women with "sausage fingers" and a late-night philosophical discussion between two slightly melancholic rocks. Dizzying and exhausting both in substance and in form, Everything everywhere at all once is a centrifuge overflowing with good feelings but whose numerous cosmic delusions will have got the better of certain spectators crushed by the long cycle of the washing machine (we continue the metaphor of the washing machine).

Is the success of the film deserved? Yes. We didn't always laugh but we cried a lot. The characters are imperfect, the reality sometimes sad and gloomy, the daily life stifling... More than an absurd science fiction farce, the triumph of Everything everywhere at all once across the Atlantic is above all a snub to current cinema by fining Marvel-branded blockbusters. Unlike the entertainment giant, the Daniels here explore the multiverse like never before with little budget, crossing temporalities and parallel universes (not to resurrect a missing character as other productions would do) but rather to resolve the existential crisis of a mother on the verge of implosion played by the formidable Michelle Yeoh. In another galaxy we would probably not have given so many statuettes to this cinematographic UFO but the main thing is there: Everything everywhere at all once dares, experiments, reinvents proving to us that cinema still has beautiful days ahead of him and many countries to explore.
