Video: Juergen Teller bares himself in the I need to live exhibition at the Grand Palais Éphémère
A direct and realistic style, an assumed taste for kitsch and grotesque humor... Juergen Teller, the most underground photographer of his generation, takes up residence at the Grand Palais Éphémère for the duration of a somewhat special photoshoot! Going against the usual glamor of photos on glossy paper, the artist plays here with the codes of good taste, daring an outrageous flash before persisting in unflattering self-portraits which, let's say it, only make him very rarely worth it. 10,000 m², XXL photographs almost 4 meters high, more than 800 works in a rather minimalist scenography... This sulphurous and decadent retrospective combines its most striking series with unique photos, from video extracts to artists' books , from vinyl covers to the most iconic installations in his repertoire. Juergen Teller chooses to exult in a crude truth, bordering on the vulgar, always impertinent. An art that frees itself from beauty to better celebrate the flaws of life...
