A work by Banksy found estimated at more than 800,000 euros!
This is a great auction coming up! Rediscovered by chance by its owner, a work by Banksy dating from 2006 will be sold at auction on March 20, in Newcastle in the north of England, by the Anderson & Garland. And the least we can say is that his estimate turns heads! This would be estimated between 585,000 and almost 820,000 euros!
But you are probably wondering how such a work could have been rediscovered so suddenly... Well know that after its creation, many Street Art lovers passed in front of the London building and the crowd turned out to be so large that the owner of the premises chose to cover the stencil with black paint, before selling the offices in 2007.
So, quite naturally, the new owner of the apartment was completely unaware of the presence of this hidden masterpiece... and finally found it by chance and then decided to call on a restoration company who struggled for over a year to remove the coating!
Entitled Holywell Row Happy Helicopters, this stencil by the best-known Street Artist was created on the front of a building in Shoreditch, east of London, before being restored and removed from the wall.
The work represents 3 large attack helicopters, used by the American army and featured in legendary Hollywood films like Apocalypse Now. These are recurring motifs in the work of the artist, who used them for the first time in the early 2000s.
