Visit to Maison Caillebotte: an impressionist haven of peace
Enter the intimacy of the most discreet of impressionist painters. Gustave Caillebotte, the modern dandy and wealthy Parisian heir, invites us to retrace the course of art history by opening the doors of his family property, for a timeless visit. As if nothing had changed since the triumph of Impressionism, we can easily imagine the painter setting up his easel in this park bordered by the river, scanning these century-old cedars, walking in the vegetable garden, sketching the flower beds and orange trees. It is in this green setting – a veritable open-air workshop – that the painter came to recharge his batteries after spending a few days in the capital. An impressionist haven of peace inspiring the artist to create more than ninety luminous and serene canvases, which contrast with the opulent lounges of the property. Refurnished identically, the neo-Palladian style Italian Casin reveals a luxurious decor made of heavy purple velvet curtains, rich mahogany furniture and Empire style armchairs. A golden break in a green theater less than half an hour from Paris…
