Egypt is being transformed at the Musée de Picardie
Picardy Museum
From April 11, 2026 to January 3, 2027
For decades, the Egyptian collection at the Musée de Picardie lay dormant behind glass cases: fragmentary objects, a famous mummy, but an unfinished story. This spring, the museum is awakening it. Curators and restorers have re-examined the Amiens collection: pieces cleaned, consolidated, sometimes brought out of storage, colors revived, and hieroglyphs made legible once more. Far from a frozen antiquity, Egypt appears vibrant and embodied once again.
Around some sixty carefully selected works, the exhibition adopts a sensitive approach: purification rituals, canopic jars, translucent alabaster, the figure of Osiris. The dialogue with the Louvre reinforces this renaissance and affirms Amiens as a regional center for Egyptology. A symbol of this ambition, the facsimile of a Tutankhamun casket, created with the Arts and Crafts Campus, unites ancient heritage and contemporary know-how.
Starting in April, we will witness the unveiling of nearly 10% of a collection of 630 objects, while awaiting the final project which will see the majority of the collection exhibited. This rediscovery places Amiens within an ancient scientific history, but one turned towards the future. An Egypt that engages in dialogue as much with the past as with our contemporary perspective.
