Leonor Fini, a year of metamorphoses: the exhibition at the Minsky Gallery
Minsky Gallery
From September 5 to October 17, 2026
Leonor Fini, a year of metamorphosis.
At the costume balls of post-war Paris, Leonor Fini transformed herself into a bird, a feline, or a mineral creature, crafting masks and adornments with the same fervor as her canvases. Long overshadowed by the male Surrealists, whose group she always refused to join, the artist has now emerged as one of the great figures of the 20th century, propelled by unprecedented enthusiasm from museums, historians, and collectors. The Minsky Gallery,, which manages her estate, is seizing this moment to dedicate an entire year to her. The exhibition is refreshed every three weeks, enriched with previously unseen and rarely exhibited pieces, constantly redirecting the viewer's perspective on the work, from sphinxes to portraits, from stage costumes to dreamlike visions. This celebration stems from a rare loyalty. Arlette Souhami has been with the artist since the late 1970s: she gave him his first major Parisian retrospective at the Musée du Luxembourg, before becoming his dealer and now safeguarding his work and legacy. The year that begins here is not just another exhibition, but the first act of a cycle destined to expand: first the gallery, then the major museums, culminating at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, which will present in the spring the largest French retrospective of the artist since the one in Luxembourg. Forty years will have passed, and the same passion will have connected everything.
