The grand return of the Salon des Beaux-Arts.

We went.

At a time when images circulate faster than ever and artists discover each other from one screen to another, what remains of a Salon? One thing that no screen can replace: the encounter. Since 1864, the Salon des Beaux-Arts has stayed true to this principle. Its dazzling 2026 edition places it under the sign of ichigo ichie, this Japanese art of the unique moment that is never repeated.

Upon entering, a flamboyant paper banquet straight out of Alice in Wonderland showcases the mastery of Aline HD, paper artist and winner of the 2026 Puvis de Chavannes Prize. Further on, Philippine Laureau combines the raw texture of coffee sacks with the delicacy of painting, Karine N’Guyen Van Tham weaves textile sculptures that preserve memory, and Dominique Jaussein transforms the photographed body into sculpted material. Then comes the Midships section, entrusted with an unexpected mission: to embody the art form.

Through images brought back from the Jeanne d’Arc mission, the officer cadets of the French Navy recount their world, under the watchful eye of Ewan Lebourdais, Official Painter of the Navy and patron of this young section. The Salon also celebrates the memory of Ivana Kobilca, a leading figure in Slovenian painting who exhibited her canvases there as early as 1891: sponsored by the Slovenian Embassy, this tribute reminds us how much the Salon remains a haven of freedom for women artists. An exceptional salon that places encounter at the heart of everything, an encounter that is free and open to all.
