Jennifer Guidi's Waterfall exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery
GAGOSIAN
From September 3 to October 10, 2026
Come closer: Jennifer Guidi's paintings are as much to be seen as felt.
Come closer. From afar, they are suns, mandalas, caves of light. Up close, the painting begins to breathe: the sand mixed with pigment catches the shadow, each hand-carved point forms a tiny relief, and the canvas becomes an almost tactile surface. Jennifer Guidi paints fields of energy. Born in Redondo Beach in 1972, and now living in Los Angeles, she has created a body of work that owes as much to Californian light as to meditative traditions: mandalas, rituals, and patterns of radiance. She applies a sand paste to the canvas, patiently imprinting thousands of depressions with a tool, and then paints within these impressions. The gesture is repetitive, almost monastic, and the result is radiant. Her compositions are organized around a center, a horizon, a source. They look at us as much as we look at them.
For this autumn season, the Gagosian Gallery is dedicating this exhibition to her, entitled "Waterfall," this water falling vertically in a continuous cascade. Large-format canvases, gradients that glide from dark to incandescent, and always that radiant light that Jennifer Guidi knows how to draw from within the painting.
