This fall, some museums are embracing the unconventional approach. Just steps from the Champs-Élysées, on Rue de Berri, lies a place that reconciles everyone with La Fontaine's fables, without requiring a single recitation. We push open the door of the Immersive City of Fables and discover a world. A thousand square meters of sumptuous sets, lights, and characters who don't behave at all as expected. The Fox struggles to flatter a capricious Crow. The Wolf simpers with suspicious grace. The Frog delivers influencer-style punchlines. And La Fontaine, portrayed by Laurent Stocker of the Comédie-Française, tries to keep a tight rein on this joyful chaos, alongside Charles Berling, Arielle Dombasle, Marie S’Infiltre, and Alexandre Astier. On one hand, there's fun. Players compete to see who will be stronger, the lion or the stag; they bring a fable to life through drawings; they unearth hidden treasures. Children love it. Adults get caught up in the game. On the other hand, there's learning. The performance reveals an unexpected La Fontaine: a free spirit who published censored tales, loyal to Fouquet despite his disgrace, a defender of animal sentience when Descartes reduced animals to mere machines. An elegant provocateur, a bit of a maverick himself. At the end of the tour, the Dream Room: twenty-five minutes of 360° video mapping, soundtrack by Bon Entendeur. The fables float, words fall silent, the Grand Siècle envelops us.
