Exhibition "Everyone should have a home, faces of survival" at the Irish Cultural Centre
IRISH CULTURAL CENTRE
From September 18 to October 28, 2026
Housing crisis, precariousness, hospitality: in Ireland, art makes housing a political issue.
A bed to sleep in, a roof over your head: the basics, you think. At the Irish Cultural Centre, a dozen artists show us how this obvious truth is often overlooked. Their exhibition immerses us in the Irish context, its dilapidated or poorly constructed housing, its chronic housing crisis, which weighs heavily on a people renowned for their hospitality, even fueling the rise of a nascent far right. We walk through sculptures, films, and photographs, pausing before doormats embroidered with messages, cheese grown from wall mold, and a nod to Jonathan Swift's *A Modest Proposal*. Then come the answers: inventive, more humane housing, designed with respect for people, uses, and the environment. Finally, the hope of living differently.
