A Rembrandt painting estimated at 10,000 euros could soon sell for more than 17 million euros!

An added value that is worth the detour! Estimated at 10,000 euros in 2021 in Amsterdam, one of the famous Adoration of the Magi, painted in 1628, was recently reattributed to the famous Dutch painter Rembrandt and will be auctioned by the Sotheby's auction house on December 6 at a value of around 15 million pounds sterling, or 17.4 million euros! A value which is explained in particular by the fact that the painting was recognized as being the work of one of the greatest masters of painting.
This reattribution is the result of (long, very long!) research and scientific analysis over 18 months! After careful cleaning to beautify the work, the auction house examined the painting using X-rays and infrared imaging before consulting experts from the famous painter who confirmed the diagnosis.
An early work by the artist, this relatively small painting (24.5 x 18.5 cm) painted in oil on oak panel represents an episode in the life of Christ. Several figures dressed in capes and turbans appear in this nocturnal scene in brown, black and gray tones. There we find some of the emblematic elements of the paintings of Rembrandt and other great masters of painting, notably chiaroscuro.
In terms of benefits, this value would arouse a certain skepticism on the part of certain art critics and specialists, judging the quality of the work relatively average in comparison with the profit that the owner as well as the auction house would benefit from. That said, the price aligns with the latest sales of the Dutch artist's works, namely a self-portrait sold for 16.8 million euros during the summer of 2020 and a sketch purchased for 11.3 million euros. at auction.
