Napoleon fever is gradually spreading to France! While Ridley Scott's biopic dedicated to the emperor is about to invade our theaters, the craze is far from being confined to our cinemas. And as proof, the Ozenet auction house, which sold a collection of objects that belonged to Napoleon this Sunday, November 19, broke a record. Indeed, an emperor's hat was sold for nearly 2 million euros.
According to a specialist, this hat is the one that Napoleon wore in the middle of the empire. The Cockade which sits atop the headgear was only added later, when the Emperor returned from the island of Elba in 1815. The whole thing therefore exceeded expectations by selling for 1.932 million euros. , a price more than twice as high as its estimate which was between 600 and 800,000 euros, surpassing at the same time the previous record which amounted to 1.884 million euros.
And while the auction house and the former owner congratulate each other on this success, this sale could bode well for the Millon house which will auction Napoleon's Legion of Honor this Friday, November 24 . Will she beat the odds in turn? We'll give you the answer at the end of the week. Because for our part, we will not fail to follow all of this very closely...
