The original cover design for Asterix and Cleopatra ultimately failed to find a buyer at auction...

A drawing bringing together a legendary queen and a cult hero that could have paid off big! The famous drawing from the cover of the comic strip Asterix and Cleopatra was to be sold at auction in Brussels on December 10 by the house Million, a major player in comic book sales in Europe since 2005. And this, despite the fact that the daughter of designer Albert Uderzo, who died in 2020, decided to file a complaint for receiving stolen goods, creating a small controversy.

As a reminder, his daughter considered the conditions of acquisition by the seller of this unique board “questionable”.

Created by Albret Uderzo, this gouache drawing dating from 1963 was to be sold by a collector who acquired it more than 50 years ago!

And the results of the races: the cover, initially estimated between 400,000 and 500,000 euros, ultimately did not find a buyer!

Were buyers discouraged by the designer's daughter's complaint? This is one of the possible hypotheses... At least, it is in any case the one put forward by the general director of Maison Million, Arnaud de Partz.
