The Musée Déchelette in Roanne offers us a fascinating dive into the history of contemporary ceramics, here in this institution which holds one of the most beautiful collections of France, the result of original acquisitions but also generous donations, such as the very recent one from Monique Nanos, counting more than 170 priceless pieces. A daring ceramic art that revisits age-old techniques to go beyond traditions and transform the material. We witness a sumptuous face-to-face encounter between virtuoso artists, true masters of fire, who play with techniques as varied as that of enamel, stoneware, earthenware, signed pottery or terracotta. varnished, constantly reinventing itself to offer us a breathtaking ballet, combining colors, shapes and effects. Halfway between craftsmanship, art and design, these artists shake up the codes, reinvent the ancestral shape of the bowl, inherited from centuries-old Japanese traditions, to make them true works of art.
