Exhibition of Art Brut Resourced, the "S" Grand Atelier at the Halle Saint Pierre
Saint-Pierre Market Hall
From September 11, 2026 to July 31, 2027
When Art Brut becomes a collective adventure.
Art Brut has long been mapped by its preferred locations, from psychiatric hospitals to prisons and spiritualist circles. For Michel Thévoz,, who long directed the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne,, the heroic era is over. But the genre has not lost its vitality. It has found new sources, notably participatory workshops. The “S” Grand Atelier, in Belgium, is a leading example. Housed in a former military barracks, the center has been hosting artists living with intellectual disabilities since 1992 and organizes co-creation residencies with contemporary visual artists.
The Halle Saint-Pierre is dedicating its season to it. The Banquet, a collective mural measuring five by two meters, painted by nine artists in 2024-2025, opens the exhibition. On the wall are The Resurrection of Lazarus, embroidered by Elke Tangeten, and the installation Twerk Shop by Philippe Marien. Far from the solitary creator imagined by Dubuffet in 1945, Art Brut, revitalized, is a workshop without partitions.
