Leonora Carrington, the art of transmutations, the exhibition at the Almine Rech - Turenne gallery
ALMINE RECH - TURENNE
From September 8 to October 10, 2026
Leonora Carrington defies categorization: she made art a world without borders.
Leonora Carrington is a complete entity. Though she passed away in 2011, the artist still resists labels. Here she is revealed in the breadth of a practice that extends far beyond painting. A writer as much as a visual artist, the multifaceted Leonora Carrington explodes the boundaries. Drawing, sculpture, tapestry, theater, jewelry, and literature all contribute to the same exploration. This cross-disciplinary approach allows us to follow an imagination that moves from surface to volume, from narrative to object. This is the strength of this exhibition: to move the artist beyond the sole realm of Surrealism and to appreciate the coherence of a practice developed over several decades. Leonora Carrington's hybrid creatures are bridges, connecting genders, species, and cultures.
