Dalí exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid
THYSSEN-BORNEMISZA MUSEUM
From October 20, 2026 to January 24, 2027
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid presents Dalí face to face with Freud, whom he met only once. Six sections show what the painter took from psychoanalysis, and what he subverted from it.
In July 1938, in London, Dalí finally obtained a meeting with Sigmund Freud, arrived with a canvas under his arm, and sketched him while the old man observed. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum makes this fascination the thread of a complete reinterpretation of the Catalan artist, in six sections, from childhood dreams to mystical visions. Around him, Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, Arnold Böcklin and Jean Arp. Soft watches, metamorphosed bodies, a paranoiac-critical method: everything finds its Freudian key.
