Peggy Guggenheim exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts, London
ROYAL ACADEMY OF ARTS
From November 21, 2026 to March 14, 2027
The Royal Academy of Arts in London tells the story of Peggy Guggenheim, the collector who became one of the most influential women in 20th-century art despite knowing nothing about it at the start.
January 1938, at 30 Cork Street. A thirty-nine-year-old American woman opened a gallery with no prior knowledge of art, on the advice of Marcel Duchamp, who, she would later write, taught her the difference between an abstract and a surrealist. The Royal Academy of Arts recreates Guggenheim Jeune, Peggy Guggenheim's first gallery. Around twenty exhibitions in eighteen months, the first British solo exhibition of Wassily Kandinsky, the country's first collage exhibition, and a sculpture display that customs refused to allow in on the grounds that it wasn't art.
