Rafael Pavarotti exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts
Museum of Decorative Arts
From October 2, 2026 to May 2, 2027
Rafael Pavarotti photographs fashion as a ceremony: at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, two hundred images where Black beauty finally occupies the center of the frame.
Rafael Pavarotti grew up in Pará, deep in the Amazon rainforest, and taught himself photography at the age of twelve by sneaking his father's camera. Twenty years later, he was shooting the covers of British Vogue and campaigns for major fashion houses, with a stance he has maintained from the start: to bring into the spotlight bodies that fashion rarely showed. His images are saturated, sculptural, and frankly sumptuous. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs has brought together more than two hundred prints, juxtaposed with photographs from its own collections, revealing the gesture within a long history: a dress by Karl Lagerfeld for Chloé, designed in 1983, photographed today by Anok Yai.
