Krapp’s Last Tape, with Stephen Rea, at the Théâtre de la Ville

Stephen Rea had recorded the voice of the young Krapp fifteen years earlier: it is therefore to himself that he answers tonight, in front of the tape recorder.

Krapp is sixty-nine years old and is listening again to the tapes he has been recording since he was twenty. Samuel Beckett has written here a time machine that fits in a drawer and on a reel: a man alone, facing what he once was, commenting and crossing out. Vicky Featherstone directs this monologue, which opens the Focus Ireland at the Théâtre de la Ville. One hour, in English with surtitles.
