Modern Barcelona exhibition, from Gaudí to Picasso, at the Kunsthalle Munich
KUNSTHALLE MÜNCHEN
From October 23, 2026 to February 21, 2027
The Kunsthalle Munich tells the story of Catalan Modernism in 160 pieces, from Gaudí to the young Picasso: 34 years during which Barcelona reinvented itself.
In 1900, Barcelona was a city under constant construction, and a 19-year-old boy began signing his canvases with his mother's name, Picasso. This is the period the exhibition recounts, from 1880 to 1914, in 160 pieces: paintings, drawings, furniture, ceramics, and architectural models. Antoni Gaudí and his mosaics of shards, the architects Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Josep Puig i Cadafalch, and a whole body of painting that has remained largely unknown in France: Hermen Anglada Camarasa and his nocturnal figures in phosphorescent colors, Ramon Casas, Isidre Nonell, Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquim Mir. Many of these works are leaving Spain for the first time. The exhibition will then travel to the Museum Barberini in Potsdam in the spring of 2027.
